To travel to India UK patients need a valid passport with at least six months remaining on it, a Visa and an onward ticket out of India. A special "Medical" visa is also now available for people travelling to India for treatment which is valid for one year but can be extended if necessary. This visa allows a patient to travel to India up to three times in one year and, depending on the Indian Embassy's assessment, two family members or friends may also be granted a visa in association with a patient's medical visa. Alternatively, companions can apply for six month multiple entry visas, which are issued to nationals of most countries along with a small fee, a valid passport and some passport sized photographs.
You can apply online for your visa through the Indian High Commission. Your broker or provider you are dealing with will be able to advise you further.
Note that the medical visa to India will only be granted for medical treatment in reputed and recognised centres so you may need to ask the broker, agent or hospital to write a letter to assist your application for a medical visa. Although many treatments will be considered appropriate for a medical visa the following are given priority:
-
Neuro-Surgery;
-
Ophthalmic disorders'
-
